  3. Making the measurement:

  5. If the cornea is toric, the two crosses 
  6. will not appear to be on the same axis.  
  7. In this case the body of the instrument 
  8. must be rotated until they appear on the 
  9. same axis.  The power is then measured 
  10. as before with the central screw in the 
  11. handle.  The axis is read in the left 
  12. window (1) in the instrument.  The body of 
  13. the instrument must then be rotated 
  14. 90 degrees to measure 
  15. the second principal 
  16. meridian.
